Marine Applications: Winch Monitoring
MARINE APPLICATIONS: WINCH MONITORING
About the application:
Winch monitoring consists of two major systems: line pull measurement and line length calculation. This enables safe handling and protection overload of winch and cable.
Line pull measurement shows and compares dynamic pull force (of each winch in case of a standard system consisting of up to 12 winches) with the SWL. During pulling condition dynamic forces are measured and when the brakes lock the winch drum static forces are measured. Direct and indirect force measurements are always used in line with winch type, manufacturer and the actual application.
The application (line pull force and line length measurement both together or separate) can be used for all new winches and nearly all existing winches.
Inclination of X-Y pane can be incorporated additionally.
The system is equipped with a display showing the operator the actual pulling forces, brake forces, line lengths, line speeds and hydraulic pressures. Slave display for bridge and or control room as per customer requirement.
For on deck, an option is to install a big numeric display with 50m read out in daylight showing load in the line.
Another option is to install cameras to view the winch drum.
Data-logging is standard. Dedicated data-analysing software (running on standard window-pc) enables users to search for events (max pulling forces, max cable lengths, holding forces)
